Benefits

Communities in Washington State and British Columbia will see new jobs and positive economic benefits as the proposed Island Gas Connector Project is built.

During the many phases of the proposed Island Gas Connector Project (IGC Project), economic activity is expected to increase in the region as a result of:

  • Environmental and engineering studies in the research and project development phase
  • Pipeline construction jobs as the IGC Project is built
  • Long-term operation jobs when the proposed pipeline is put into service

As part of the IGC Project team’s research, economic impact studies will take place to give communities in Washington State and British Columbia a clearer picture about the number of jobs, tax revenues and overall economic benefits that could be generated as a result of this proposed new investment in energy infrastructure.

The proposed Malahat LNG project is also expected to provide positive economic benefits and jobs for the southern Vancouver Island area.
